Margaux Stevenson always knew she would have her wedding at Rosecliff. “My mom took me to the [Newport] mansions when I was 8 or 9 years old,” she says. “Ever since then I’ve been saying, ‘I’m getting married at Rosecliff.’ It’s the only place I’ve ever considered.”

Her boyfriend Thomas Moloughney’s proposal was a thoughtful prelude to their June wedding at the Gilded Age estate. “One of my favorite places in [New York City] is the Whispering Gallery at Grand Central Station,” says Margaux. “Whenever someone visits or if we pass through Grand Central I always make them stop at this whispering wall—it’s a beautiful archway, and if you go to opposite corners and talk into the arch of the wall, the sound travels across the top of the arch down to the person on the other side. It’s the coolest trick.”

After a romantic dinner in Little Italy in the Bronx, Thomas and Margaux traveled back home on the subway and through the station. Says Thomas, “When we got off the train, I made her go to the whispering wall. I asked her [to marry me] into the wall and it echoed all the way over to the other side of the terminal. I’m not sure she really believed it at first, but when she turned around, I was down on one knee.”

The pair elected to keep their nuptials as traditional and true to their venue as possible. “I guess if you get married at Rosecliff, the place takes over,” says Margaux, who wanted a simple, yet elegant, princess-style wedding. A soft and feminine color palette of blush and ivory tones complemented the magnificent architecture of Rosecliff’s ballroom, and Margaux’s gorgeous striped ball gown by designer Tony Ward was a playful nod to the mansion’s iconic striped awning.

Of their big day, the pair says the event was flawless—from the cloudless sky and warm weather to the band that kept them and their guests dancing into the night. Says Margaux, “Everything was just perfection.”
