There’s a newcomer to the handcrafted goods scene in Southern New England. Rhode Island Rustic was founded by nature-loving couple Mark Baker and Leigh Medeiros earlier this year, who together produce sustainable, one-of-a-kind home decor items out of their home on Narragansett Bay. Their product line includes branch hooks, blanket ladders and serving trays made out of fallen trees from their property or reclaimed pallets from nearby manufacturing plants. Each is then cut, drilled, sanded, and sealed by hand. They also make hand-dyed linen products colored with natural plant-based indigo dye.
These cozy and functional pieces make the perfect gift for an eco-conscious couple, and with a little creativity they can even be used as part of a rustic wedding. Founders Mark and Leigh recently celebrated a belated wedding reception and incorporated several of their handcrafted wares into the celebration, including their serving tray, which held compostable plant starch dinnerware wrapped in recycled paper napkins and their branch hook display boards, which doubled as place card holders.
