Kate and Nate Bastien met while they were both attending Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Since Nate had already made plans to move to New Zealand, they weren’t sure they would ever see each other again. A year later, Nate returned to Plymouth for a few months. When they saw each other for the first time after a year apart, they both knew immediately that they wanted to be together.
Nate grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, so they decided to have a traditional church wedding there, at St. Barnabas Church. They chose the Atlantic Beach Club for their reception because they loved the view from the upstairs function room, and the venue’s relaxed beach atmosphere was a perfect fit for them. “We really wanted the style of our wedding to represent us,” says Kate. “We chose a style that was simple and beautiful. We wanted blush and gray to be the overall colors. Sayles Livingston did our flowers and did an amazing job.”
Sayles says that Kate and Nate were a wonderful example of how a couple could make careful and educated choices to fit within their budget without sacrificing beauty. Their arrangements included peonies, hydrangea, roses and dusty miller. “They were a lovely couple,” she says. “They were artistic, passionate and creative but steady and practical at the same time. We incorporated natural elements like wooden boxes with soft, romantic flowers to create a design that reflected both Nate’s and Kate’s styles.”
The most memorable part of the day for Kate and Nate was going to Ballard park, where Nate had proposed, to take their wedding photos. It’s a special place for both of them, and they regularly walk their dog, Kai, there. “To have our wedding party there in our wedding attire was an amazing moment and a lot of fun,” says Kate.
