For this fall family fete, Erin and Alex brought out all the stops to welcome their loved ones to their home-spun wedding celebration at the home of Erin’s aunt, a place where Erin holds fond memories of holiday gatherings, family dinners and lazy summer afternoons spent on the farmer’s porch. The property, which includes a pond and barn, lent itself perfectly to an autumn wedding.
To assist in the planning, the couple hired Lo McShay of LoLo Event Design. “Hiring Lo was by far the best investment we made in the entire wedding process,” says Erin. “Because of all of her work behind the scenes, Lo made our part in the process feel fun and easy rather than stressful and time-consuming. She did a phenomenal job of listening to what we wanted, and she gave great insight and suggestions. Lo also has great taste that meshed perfectly with how we envisioned the day.”
“Erin and Alex’s wedding was truly a celebration of two wonderful families coming together,” says Lo. “Their vision was to create a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to feel comfortable in and enjoy. To achieve this backyard vibe we layered natural elements and created informal seating areas with picnic blankets for cocktail hour, rows of banquet tables for dinner and a late night fire pit.”
Every detail, from the ceremony officiant (Alex’s brother), to the wedding attendees (the couple had their families stand beside them during their vows rather than the traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen), to the bride’s walk down the aisle, incorporated family, giving them an active role in the day.
Pre-and-post ceremony cocktails preceded an all-evening soiree that included a seasonal menu, complementing decor of pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, mums and natural wood, late-night snacks and s’mores for the night owls.
