The lush colors of the Caribbean set the tone for Kathleen Day and Judson Chapman’s wedding at Cove Cabin at Mount Hope Farm. The couple, who met at a barbecue through Kathleen’s college roommate (“things just clicked” for the two of them) picked the venue because she had gone to Roger Williams University and Judson had grown up in nearby Somerset, Rhode Island.

While the couple is from New England, they had traveled together multiple times over the years to the Caribbean, so it was kismet that they were engaged in Aruba in front of family.

“My mom got the entire thing frame by frame even though she had no clue it was going to happen,” says Kathleen of her mother, who captured the entire ordeal with her camera. “I remember hearing her clicking away saying ‘Oh my God’ over and over again. It was very special.”

That happy moment set the tone for the couple’s wedding, which included bridesmaids dressed in ombre blues, turquoise and gold tablecloths, and pink, cream and green flowers. They worked closely with their caterer, Russell Morin, to perfect the menu and named each food station after a place in the Caribbean, like “Turks and Tapas” and “Catch of the Bolongo Bay.”

“We wanted our guests to feel like they were at a beach bar on vacation with us in the Caribbean,” says Kathleen, who worked with Jaime Nelson of Eventfully Planned to execute her vision. To this end, the couple floored the tent, hung shell chandeliers and rented “Miami-style” furniture to give the space a beach vibe.

The ceremony was especially touching for the couple who were married by Judson’s uncle, a reverend.

“We created a religious ceremony from scratch with him, which included our uncles doing readings and Judson’s mother passing our rings around for the congregation to bless,” says Kathleen. “Our night ended on the most incredible high as our guests encircled us and danced to the band’s encore song. It was such a cool moment to feel everyone we loved surrounding us.”
