A Once-In-A-Lifetime travel Itinerary

Early honeymoon planning pays off

By Courtney Toomey

The wedding might be over, but the honeymoon has just begun. For most newlyweds, the romantic trip after the “I do’s” is almost as important as the big day. That’s why it is essential to start planning early in order to create the vacation itinerary of your dreams, whether that involves zip-lining through the jungle, sailing into the sunset or just simply sipping a Mai Tai on the sand.

“My best advice would be to book months ahead of time,” says Susan Peavey, owner of Susan Peavey Travel of Marshfield, Mass. “This way, the couple gets the exact room they are looking for and can pay for their honeymoon over time. Weddings are beautiful, but they can be very structured. Most of our clients are ready to relax on a beautiful beach with lots of amenities and we can make that happen.”

When asked why couples should book their honeymoon with a travel agent and not do all of the planning on their own, Peavey has some words of wisdom. “Booking online can be confusing and there’s no one to reach out to when a mistake is made,” she shares. “With all of the different destinations and resorts to choose from, it can also be tricky to find the perfect fit for you from a few photos online. We have personally experienced many of the popular resorts out there today and can give the real feedback needed to make your decision.”

While couples honeymoon all over the globe, many favor sunny, sandy destinations. “The Dominican Republic and Mexico are definitely the honeymoon hot spots,” claims Peavey. “Most couples want warm climates, great food, beautiful beaches and relaxation.”

So sit back and imagine your perfect honeymoon adventure. Maybe it looks something like this:
