Let’s face it: the bride usually gets her way when it comes to the wedding cake’s overall look. But that’s not to say that there can’t be a tribute to the groom nestled in somewhere. That’s where the “Peek-a-Boo” design feature comes into play. “A bride will ask us to incorporate something that’s symbolic of the groom and his interests,” says Nancy Remy of Nancy’s Bakery in Somerset, Massachusetts. “We use fondant to make it look like it’s popping out of the cake and usually place it in the back so that it ends up being a surprise when he sees it.”
For example, the above cake includes an old-fashioned police box for a groom on the force and the below cake includes a toy replica of the groom’s truck. The “peek-a-boo” feature could also be a fun, quirky memento that’s important to the couple or it could even celebrate a parent, grandparent, friend or a pet!
