Travel Tuesday: Block Island

When we think of “the islands” in regards to New England, The Cape, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket seem to get all the love. While I’m a huge fan of all of the above, I have to say that Block Island also deserves a mention when talking about New England island getaways. I currently live in Rhode Island so it’s admittedly a closer trip for me than the Cape and Islands, but I also visited BI when I was a NYC resident, and was able to get there entirely via public transit (The Hampton Jitney to Montauk, then the Block Island Ferry) which is a pretty big plus.

Recently I took a little daytrip to the Block from Point Judith, RI and and had a great day exploring the island via bicycle, going for a dip in the bright blue ocean, hitting up a couple bars and of course, scarfing down a lobster roll. While renting our bikes at Beach Rose Bicycle, I also discovered another great wedding venue on the island, The Rose Farm Inn. Both Beach Rose Bicycle and local florist La Bella Rose are located right on property and run by a husband and wife team.

Ferries are available to Block Island from Point Judith and Newport, RI as well as recently added Fall River, MA. Visit the Block Island Tourism site for more information on this lovely little oasis right here in little Rhody, and don’t forget to check out our recent Q&A all about getting married on Block Island.
