We’re traveling today with this European destination wedding. Let’s start by taking in the sights…
Set in the Italian Lakes region, on Lake Como to be precise, this destination wedding has it all: culture, scenery, local fare, sunshine and, most of all, an adventurous couple. In order to make their dream of a wedding in Italy come true, Adam and Chelsea looked to southern New England-based firm Extraordinary Destination Weddings for all the arrangements.
Working with a professional event firm that specializes in destination weddings has innumerable advantages, not the least of which is its ability to deal with very distinct cultural differences regarding how business is done in different parts of the world, explains Terri Altergott, president of Extraordinary Destination Weddings and owner of Something Borrowed, Something New Events. “In Europe, things are still done with a handshake and here in the States, we like to see things in writing, particularly for something as important as a wedding,” she says.
Initially, the couple considered both Tuscany and the Northern Lakes region for their nuptials. “They flew over to Italy for a week and met with both our Tuscan planner and our Italian Lakes planner,” says Altergott. “While they loved Tuscany, it was the indescribable natural beauty of Lake Como that ultimately stole their hearts.”
Working hand in hand with Italy-based partner and planner Massi Russo, Extraordinary Destination Weddings gave Adam, Chelsea and their 60 guests an unforgettable experience. The festivities were to begin with rehearsal dinner at a local castle; however, the castle was struck by lightning and caught on fire an hour before dinner was to be served. “Fortunately, this was the only crisis we faced, and thanks to Massi’s local connections, we had the dinner moved in short order and everything stayed on schedule,” says Altergott.
The couple’s big day went off without a hitch, beginning with a garden ceremony at Villa Cipressi overlooking Lake Como followed by a dinner fit for kings inside the villa. Later in the evening, private boats took everyone across the lake for a sensational after-party at Lido di Bellagio, where they partied and danced the night away until the wee hours of the morning.
To cap off the festivities, Extraordinary Destination Weddings helped Adam and Chelsea plan a 10-day honeymoon in the Greek Isles, where they visited Santorini, Mykonos and Crete. Says Altergott, “It truly was the fairytale wedding they were both hoping for and we were so honored to be a part of it.”
