The Block Island Wedding Show is just a few days away! If you didn’t get your tickets yet, you should probably get on that. The show will feature local vendors, live entertainment, food and drinks and takes place at the scenic Sullivan House overlooking both the Great Salt Pond and the Atlantic Ocean. To find out a little about both the show and planning a Block Island Wedding, we interviewed Sean Kivlehan who owns the Sullivan House and also Block Island Gourmet & Party Rentals. Needless to say, he knows a thing or two about planning your dream island wedding!
SNEW: Let’s start out with the obvious, why should people considering a Block Island wedding attend the show? What kinds of information and vendors can they expect to find?
SK: The Block Island Wedding Show is a fun way for brides & grooms to learn about the top-end services that Block Island has to offer – all under one roof. Wedding venues, photographers, caterers, florists are just some of the vendors that will be featured. A couple could literally plan their entire wedding at the show!
SNEW: When do you suggest people begin planning a BI wedding? What do they need to know to do so?
SK: Start planning as soon as you know that Block Island is the place for you. All you have to know is that everything you need is here on the Island to make your wedding a truly amazing event.
SNEW: What are some of the things that make a Block Island wedding unique and special?
SK: Block Island offers natural beauty and stellar services in a way that nowhere else can. We have such a variety of weddings here – from flip-flop casual to tuxedo formal. But they all share the magical backdrop of this beautiful Island.
SNEW: What are your insider recommendations for fun activities to incorporate into a wedding weekend?
SK: Anything that brings your family and friends together to relax and enjoy each other’s company – from yoga to water sports to themed rehearsal dinners and brunches.
SNEW: Favorite food and drink on the island?
SK: For me, it’s always champagne and fresh local food.
SNEW: Best advice for brides-to-be?
SK: Relax and enjoy the process: a Block Island wedding takes a little work and organization but it’s so worth it. And there’s fantastic on-Island support for all aspects of your wedding celebration.
