Sunflowers, Black-Eyed Susans Add Cheerful Yellows To Vineyard-Themed Wedding

NATALIE OLIVIER TO ASCER BARLATIER | 8.16.15

Santa certainly outdid himself for Natalie Olivier Barlatier last Christmas—although it didn’t appear so at first. “It was Christmas morning and we had finished opening our presents,” says Natalie. “Ascer really tricked me. I had about five gifts for him and he had given me a bracelet that didn’t fit. I started picking up the wrapping paper and he was still sitting on the floor, saying he had a leg cramp. I turned around and he was on one knee, holding an open box. I cried, I giggled, then cried and giggled.”

Finding the perfect venue for their wedding was easy. Natalie was perusing Pinterest when she saw images of The Villa at Ridder Country Club in East Bridgewater. “It was the first place we visited,” says Natalie. “I loved it immediately. I just asked, ‘Where do I sign?’ It reminded me of a European vineyard. It still had modern style, but felt comfortable.” The wine theme emerged from the couple’s personal history. The first gift Ascer ever gave Natalie was a bottle of Sancerre after she finished a half marathon, and their engagement photo shoot was at Newport Vineyards.

During the wedding ceremony, both Ascer and Natalie’s brothers held a bottle of wine, one red, one white. The bride and groom poured from the two vessels into one, symbolizing the union of their families. Instead of saving cake to celebrate their first anniversary, Ascer and Natalie have a bottle of vino.

The bridesmaids carried bouquets of sunflowers, Natalie’s favorite blooms. Sunflowers also decorated the wedding broom that the newlyweds jumped at the end of the ceremony. Natalie drew on her skills as a graphic designer to create the invitations, menus, programs and thank you notes.

The couple was already comfortable with photographer Todd Wilson, who had done their engagement shoot. “He did such a great job and was very professional,” says Natalie. “He gets what he’s looking for. Even when you don’t know what you’re looking for, he sees it.” And what he saw was a beaming bride and groom promising their lives to each other in a beautiful setting, surrounded by loved ones.
