For Joseph Hennessey and Meaghan Zaino, spring—a season known for growth and renewal—was the perfect time to begin a life together. After becoming engaged amid fireworks on July 4, 2014, the couple began to plan a wedding weekend getaway at The Villa at Ridder Country Club.
While guests spent three days enjoying the venue’s amenities and atmosphere, as well as Meaghan’s thoughtful welcome gifts, ultimately the couple’s ceremony and reception were the highlights of the event.
Meaghan and Joe’s officiant, Stoddard Melhado, began the ceremony with a reading and placed two flowers, which represented the couple, into a vase. Slowly, the couple added flowers that represented parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends.
“The vase symbolized us as we start our life together,” Meaghan says. “But we aren’t just the two of us—we are a reflection of those who helped us get to where we are today.”
The reception décor included warm, personal touches like monogrammed wooden kegs, a roaring fire and a family picture slide show. Guests were directed to assigned tables with seating place cards, which were attached to antique keys that doubled as bottle openers and hung from two distressed countryside doors. Bear Fight, one of Boston’s premier party bands, performed. To everyone’s surprise, Joe, who is close friends with the band’s drummer, briefly joined the musicians on stage.
“The week before, I picked out a song and practiced and learned it,” Joe says. “For everyone to see me up there—it was pretty special.”
Meaghan, who called Joe’s performance “incredible,” says that her wedding was a smashing success that she will remember forever.
“It’s a lot of work to put a wedding together—there are so many intricate details—but to see how much people enjoyed themselves made it all worth it.”
