REBECCA GLADU TO DAN LOUREIRO | 6.20.15By Laurie Higgins
When Rebecca Gladu and Dan Loureiro first visited The Wauwinet on Nantucket five years ago, Dan said that he would love to get married there. The couple continued to visit the resort every year and Dan proposed to Rebecca in one of its charming cottages in May 2014. Their dream wedding came true the following June.
“After going to The Wauwinet for so many years, we have had the pleasure of getting to know many employees,” says Rebecca. “We always feel right at home when we arrive and wanted our guests to feel right at home at our wedding.”
The Hopkinton, Mass., couple opted for an intimate weekend celebration with 40 of their closest friends and family. Instead of the usual rehearsal dinner, they threw a cocktail-and-appetizer welcoming event on the water view terrace of the Dreamland Theater in the island’s downtown. The day after the wedding, they hosted a brunch on The Wauwinet’s patio.
For the wedding, Rebecca let The Wauwinet’s vintage elegance inspire their theme. Flowers were very important to her. Nantucket florist Flowers on Chestnut did a perfect job with both the reception and her bridal bouquet, which included a purple iris to represent Rebecca’s grandmother, who had passed away. The chef at Wauwinet’s restaurant, Topper’s, created a special four-course menu that included roasted beef tenderloin and butter-poached lobster as the main course.
“We specifically asked the venue to have our favorite waiter, Doyd, personally attend to us at our wedding reception,” says Rebecca. “To us, Doyd is a Wauwinet tradition and we wanted him to be part of our day.”
For both Rebecca and Dan, the most memorable part of the day was the ceremony. Dan loved seeing Rebecca walk down the aisle. She surprised him by having the cellist play the theme from “Game of Thrones,” which made him laugh.
“We never took our eyes off each other at the altar,” says Rebecca. “I forgot everyone else was there.”
