Last New Year’s Eve, Laurie Bloom and William Flynn not only rang in 2017, they also celebrated the start of their new lives together as a married couple.

Having met as teenagers, the pair reconnected after college and knew instantly that they were meant to be together. On Christmas Eve 2015, with both sets of their parents in attendance, Billy proposed to Laurie.

When it came to planning their big day, the two focused on throwing an unforgettable celebration for their guests. Their wedding took place at The Exchange, an event center on Boston’s waterfront.

Embracing their holiday wedding date, the couple chose themed décor like tall glass vases filled with gold and silver confetti and New Year’s Eve hats and accessories. They also had a wall of floating white carnations by Bella Flora as a backdrop for their ceremony. “We left it up for the reception, and it ended up being a more popular photo op then the photo booth,” says Laurie.

Another special touch: Laurie and Billy sealed a bottle of champagne and letters from their parents inside a wood wine box to open on their first anniversary. The most memorable moment of the day, though, was their New Year’s kiss. “We had a champagne toast, a big countdown, gold and silver streamers came pouring down, and we got our first New Year’s kiss as a married couple,” says Laurie. “It was magical.”
