On an afternoon hike at Devil’s Den Preserve in Weston, Connecticut, Lisa playfully mocked Alex’s racing heart, thinking it was from the modest hike. Little did she know his heart was racing for another reason, and it was then that he got down on one knee and asked Lisa to marry him.
Choosing Willowbend for their wedding reception was an easy decision for the couple. Lisa’s parents had recently moved to the community, and they’d seen so many lovely weddings while dining at the Grille Room during the summer months that they knew it would be the perfect place for their own. “We were very impressed with the versatility of the venue. The simple yet elegant décor of the club provides a great canvas for weddings of all different styles,” says Lisa.
Their weekend-long celebration kicked off with a nautical-inspired clambake on the patio and extended through Sunday brunch with friends and family. Lisa arrived at the wedding in a white Rolls Royce, and the couple posed for photos with a stunning backdrop of the golf course, picturesque red barn and charming cranberry bogs. The cocktail hour, complete with a signature “Cape Cod Fizz,” was held outside before guests moved into the ballroom for dinner and dancing, where they were treated to grand views of the 18th hole.
Lisa described the style of their wedding as traditional and elegant, using cream and ivory as base colors and adding in pops of light green and gold for a luxurious feel. “It was just very romantic and pretty,” says Terry Morris, special events director at Willowbend. “The thing I remember most was how beautiful [Lisa’s] gown was,” she adds. One of the couple’s favorite details was the flags displayed outside the Club. Lisa’s family is from Great Britain, so they flew English and Irish flags alongside the American flag, symbolizing the coming together of both families.
