It was a whirlwind love affair for Katharine and Joseph, who met on match.com and went on their first date later that same day. “We fell hard and fast,” says Katharine. At the time, she was attending graduate school in Boston, and Joseph was working in Newton. “I was not looking for the love of my life at that time, but when the right one came along, I couldn’t let him go.”

After a year-and-a-half, the couple moved to Texas for work, where they soon got engaged. Katharine, a genetic counselor, and Joseph, a chemical engineer, share a love of science and the city of Boston, so it was only natural for the couple to wed at the Museum of Science. “I wanted a place that felt like the Boston we know and love, somewhere edgy but classic,” says Katharine about choosing the wedding venue.

The Washburn Pavilion overlooks the Charles River and affords breathtaking views of the city, which called for a neutral wedding palette with metallic accents. “I wanted to walk a line between chic urban sophistication and relaxation,” says Katharine, who, with family and friends, made many of the decorations, including the magnolia crepe paper centerpieces, origami boat escort cards and programs.

“The blend of neutral colors really made the space pop,” says Cheryl Penaskovic, account manager and wedding planner at the MOS, “[while] the surprise tango really made the guests drop their jaws even more.” The whole day was perfection, says Katharine. “What could be better than gorgeous weather, an amazing dress, a fabulous guy, and all your best friends in the world dancing and eating cake in your favorite city?”
