June 16th, 2012. Massachusetts native and avid Red Sox fan, Jennifer, met Joe, a New Yorker and naturally a Yankees man, during their first semester at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. The college sweethearts planned a budget-conscious Newport wedding for 175 guests, beginning with a Catholic ceremony at St. Lucy’s followed by a reception brimming with personal style at the Hyatt Regency Newport.
“The Hyatt was a perfect choice,” explains Jennifer, “as it’s surrounded by Narragansett Bay and gave wonderful resort accommodations to many out-of-town guests attending our three-day destination wedding.”
Special, personal touches surfaced in several aspects of the June wedding celebration, such as the flowers made from pieces of their grandmothers’ and mothers’ veils that were incorporated into Jennifer’s bouquet; a mix of roses, hydrangeas, gardenias and peonies favored by the couples’ grandmothers.
Other individual touches broadcast meaningful details about the newlyweds: the skiing bride and groom cake topper reflected the couples favorite pastime – “Joe proposed to me at the Mt. Washington Resort in North Conway during a sleigh ride,” says Jennifer–and at every reception table a double-sided sign identified the table number on one side with facts about the couple on the other.
Jennifer’s mother, Lori, took special delight in the details. From her bedroom-converted-to-craft-room, she created the menus, programs and boxed invitations that when opened, played ‘Here Comes the Bride.’
Day-of wedding coordinator, Colleen Kimmel of Classic Weddings, recalls: “I would describe the overall look and feel of their wedding as Classic Newport, a nautical, ocean-side wedding with just the right amount of local flair and their own fun, personal style.”
