How to Avoid a Wedding Day Bow Tie Emergency

A funny thing happened during our Nantucket photo shoot this month…

We borrowed a whole bunch of cheery silk bow ties from Murray’s Toggery Shop to outfit our “groom” in preppy island finery (when on Nantucket, right?), but when it came time to get our model dressed, none of us knew how to tie them! Literally, no one, out of a team of about 8 people, and we’ve been around more than a few weddings! So if we struggled, we can only imagine the potential wedding day disaster that could strike any poor, unsuspecting group of groomsmen who thought they ordered theirs pre-tied.

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, but just in case, bookmark this great youtube tutorial, which saved us during the shoot, on your phones. Our editor, Danielle, was able to learn on the fly while our patient model stood very still and tried to crouch down to help with the height differential. Our advice: pre-tied is probably the best way to go if you haven’t already acclimated to haberdashery at its finest, but if you’re up for the challenge of self-ties, do a practice round or two before the big day!
