ANGELA EDGAR TO JONATHAN CHIN | 6.4.15By Jessica Bowne
Often, you don’t realize the best things in life are right in front of you. This was the case for Angela Edgar and her husband, Jonathan Chin, who went to the same college at the same time but didn’t meet until mutual friends introduced them.
The duo, who now live in Texas, got engaged on Labor Day when Jonathan set up a sailboat tour of Newport, with a picnic basket, champagne and a beautiful ring. “It was really foggy that day, which made sailing around the harbor very mysterious and romantic,” says Angela. “We picked Newport for our wedding because it’s a place we always love to visit and it holds a special place in our hearts since we got engaged there.”
Jonathan grew up in Providence in a large family so a New England wedding made perfect sense. Their wedding, held at The Regatta Place, had a “nautical glam” feel with navy, mint, pink and pops of gold as a way to honor the location and their engagement spot. The menu, table numbers and favor tags were especially important to Angela as Jonathan designed them, and the monkey’s fist knots used for décor were done by his brother. “It was important for us to have fun and keep things simple,” says Angela, who chose beautiful light pink hydrangeas for her low-key flower arrangements.
The wedding day was a relaxing celebration of friends and family. The women got ready together at a rented home in downtown Newport, where they stayed for the weekend, and the men were at a nearby hotel. One of the bridesmaids read a poem written by Angela’s mother, and later the bride and her dad delighted the crowd when they broke out dancing to Pharrell’s “Happy” during the father/daughter dance.
The couple’s favorite memory was when the “photographer stole us away for a few minutes during the reception to take some sunset photos,” says Angela. “It gave us a moment for just us…to have a few laughs and soak up the beautiful evening together.”
