Surrounded by tropical plants in a beautiful botanical garden, Ben DePalo asked Aimee Bourassa to be his wife. The two met during graduate school at Bryant University and quickly fell in love. “After dating for about a year, Ben took a job in Illinois and I went with him,” says Aimee. “Shortly after, he proposed.”
Although they now reside in the Midwest, the couple knew Rhode Island was the perfect setting for their wedding. Aimee, who is originally from Canada, wanted her family to experience the state where she had lived for nearly a decade; Ben, a Rhode Islander born and raised, loved the idea. While searching for a venue, Ben’s grandparents suggested Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. “Rhodes was so historic, and it was a nice fit,” says Aimee. “It showed my family the Rhode Island culture.”
Under the ownership of Russell Morin Fine Catering, Rhodes on the Pawtuxet not only offered a beautiful backdrop for Aimee and Ben’s wedding, but also provided exceptional catering services. “They were wonderful in the planning process and everything we tasted was delicious. They also set up a beer tasting station for us where we could introduce our American guests to hearty Canadian beers,” says Aimee.
Aaron Messina, general manager of Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, enjoyed creating a relaxed atmosphere for the couple. “A lot of the wedding was thoughtful and spoke to who they really were. We helped them communicate the experience they wanted and that was light and enjoyment.”
To intertwine the Canadian and American cultures even more, Aimee and Ben presented each guest with a special bottle of wine made by Ben’s family at the end of the night.
