Fall Wedding at The Chanler at Cliff Walk Evokes Old-World Romance with Marsala and Orchid Hues

When Noelle Barbosa and Aaron Watters planned their destination wedding, Newport was an obvious choice. Noelle had grown up vacationing in Newport and the Boston couple still visits frequently throughout the year. “Newport is one of our favorite places in New England,” says Aaron. “We’ve been going to The Chanler since we started dating. We went there for lunch early in the relationship and were hooked. It’s really tough to leave that view.”

The Chanler at Cliff Walk proved to be the perfect venue for their intimate group of 30 guests. They wanted their wedding to be like a family dinner in their home, with cocktails and wine perfectly paired with each course. Their cocktail hour included a selection of four passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by a three-course dinner with wine pairing and a clever title for each course.

Noelle chose a color palette of Marsala and radiant orchid, highlighted by gold and gray tones, to symbolize romance. “The combination was old-world opulence blended with modern-day romance,” she says. “An ‘Opulent Romance’ was a phrase I coined myself after we visited and chose The Chanler. I was mesmerized by the property’s history, ambience and décor.”

Noelle created her own meaningful family memento with her “Polly” bouquet. Wrapped in silk and dressed with brass buttons from her father’s army coat, the arrangement was embellished with emerald tail feathers from her family’s pet parrot that her father had brought home from Panama. “As a tribute to my late father’s memory and the bird he loved so much, I incorporated his buttons and Polly’s feathers as a way to keep them close to my heart on my wedding day,” she says.
