Kate Clough had been dreaming about her wedding day since she was a little girl. When she married Patrick Murtaugh at Rhode Island’s Weekapaug Golf Club (just 100 feet from her childhood home) last year, that fact was made quite evident: the attention to detail and beauty of the day were clearly the result of someone with a vision in place.

Patrick and Kate met their sophomore year at Boston College. Their friendly relationship blossomed into romance after “a season of football games and study sessions,” Kate says. Five years later, Patrick proposed to Kate while vacationing in Paris. Although the day Patrick popped the question was a day the couple would never forget, they couldn’t wait to get back home to begin planning their big day, especially given Kate’s talents as a professional event designer.

The wedding day’s color scheme of white and navy stripes with coral and pink accents tied in perfectly with the day’s theme, which incorporated preppy and nautical elements and a touch of vintage glamour. The groomsmen wore Nantucket red pants and Sperry Topsider boat shoes and the bridesmaids wore pearl necklaces with Jack Rogers sandals.

The couple wanted the wedding to be as locally driven as possible. “All of the vendors had roots in Southeastern Rhode Island—from the Three Islands tunics worn by my bridesmaids [during the] pre-ceremony to serving Rhode Island’s famous Del’s frozen lemonade at cocktail hour,” notes Kate. Nods to New England were added throughout the menu, with additions like clam chowder, clam cakes and fish ’n’ chips, and special finishing touches like tiny starfish decorations adorning each place setting. To incorporate history into the reception, a vintage milk glass collection from the bride’s family was used to display the floral centerpieces created by Blue Butterfly Florist.

Says Kate, “Not that I’m biased or anything, but our wedding day was one heck of a day and party! We look back at each element of the day with true joy, whether it’s our first dance, our Rhode Island clambake dinner, the surprise-choreographed moonwalk from my dad, or the roaring dance party with a professional cigar roller under the stars. It was a night to remember with every detail building on the next to create a true New England celebration!”
