The pleasures and sorrows of being an editor at a wedding magazine: this fall, I interviewed a bride and groom about their wedding at the Chanler at Cliff Walk for a feature in the 2014 issue of Southern New England Weddings. Sunny, the bride, told me about the signature drink that the Chanler, which is one of Rhode Island’s most exclusive, luxe and to-die-for wedding venues in Newport, Rhode Island, made just for her. It was Champagne with just a splash of St. Germain – a French elderflower liquor that has notes of grapefruit and lychee – and lavender simple syrup.
Well, I’ve been dreaming about making this cocktail for months now, and today I finally found the time to make the lavender syrup following this easy recipe. I’m having a little gathering of friends and family at my apartment tonight who will be my guinea pigs, but I’m guessing that if it passed muster at the Chanler, it will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
