Neha & Shantanu
July 3, 2016 • Brewster, MassachusettsBy Stacey Marcus | Wedding photography by Laurel Hill Photography
When Neha Sahni returned from her first date with Shantanu Gaur, she called her friends to tell them she had just met her future husband. Next, she phoned her boss with the good news. “I had this overwhelming feeling that he was the one,” says Neha, who did not share her premonition with Shantanu.
Fast-forward a couple of years to when Shantanu planned a surprise of his own by congregating family in Pittsburgh for a late afternoon proposal at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. “We walked into the Orchid Room and it was empty except for a small table with champagne and a photographer. Shantanu got down on one knee and proposed,” remembers Neha, who was elated to have her and her future husband’s immediate and extended families share in the celebration, which included a boat cruise and backyard barbecue.
To prepare for their wedding celebration at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, Neha traveled to India with her parents. Along with the wedding invitations, the trio handpicked special clothing, shoes and accessories, items for the goody bags and umbrellas for guests for the outside portion of the wedding.
Neha fondly recalls the three-day ceremony that began with the Mehndi where Neha applied henna on her hands and feet. “My parents’ house was full of joy on this special day, which also was my birthday,” she recalls. Next came the Mela, a bright and colorful welcome dinner including a huge Indian feast and speeches from friends.
The events of the couple’s wedding included a traditional Hindu ceremony, dinner and, of course, dancing. “The day was a whirlwind,” Neha says. One element she treasured was that she and Shantanu wrote each other letters. After their fairytale wedding celebration, the couple honeymooned in Italy and Greece.
