You never know when a chance meeting will change the rest of your life. Mary Kate and Matt Foley met at his cousin’s housewarming party, and it was quickly obvious that they had a lot in common when it came to family, the future and spending quality time together.
After three years of dating, romantic dinners on the Plymouth waterfront and a yellow lab puppy, Matt proposed to Mary Kate at the very spot where it all started: his cousin’s home.
“As we began our wedding planning, we wanted to choose a local setting that was special to us,” says Mary Kate. “We had attended several events at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School and spent many Sundays sipping coffee and rocking in the chairs on the deck overlooking the boats.”
Just a few miles from their new home in Duxbury, the Maritime School was the perfect place to give their guests a taste of New England, including a navy-and-gold nautical theme.
The pair was wed by Mary Kate’s older brother, David, and guests played lawn games during cocktail hour. Regional-focused cuisine, complete with a raw bar served in a dory, was overseen by the very capable Silent Chef Catering from Scituate. Live music kept everyone on the dance floor all night long.
“We both agree that our favorite part of the day was the first look,” says Mary Kate. “Before the wedding ceremony, we had a wedding trolley bring the guys to ‘Bumpus,’ a small peninsula that overlooks the bay but actually faces the Maritime School from afar. The trolley then brought us girls to the site. Matt was standing alone facing the water. I walked to him and we shared a special, intimate moment before the day began. It was pretty awesome.”
