It’s just like one of those success stories heralded on TV commercials: Mallory and Griffin met on Match.com and began dating seriously following a casual post-work drink in downtown Boston. After a surprise proposal in Boston’s Faneuil Hall, the site of their first kiss, the couple decided to get married the following Labor Day weekend, giving themselves exactly one year and one day to plan.

The couple’s Love Story:
Although pressed for time, they had access to a secret weapon: Mallory’s sister, Tasha Bracken, who owns Wellesley-based event planning company SD Events. The firm handled all of the wedding coordination and, although Tasha was involved in the decision-making as a planner, she remained first and foremost Mallory’s sister and a supportive bridesmaid.
Both Mallory and Griffin always vacationed on the Cape growing up and wanted to throw a “quintessential Cape Cod Labor Day weekend summer bash,” says Mallory. While touring the Wychmere Beach Club, they connected with the venue immediately. “We decided to have our reception in the Harbor Room, which used to be an active dock and is now a long, narrow room with beautiful floors and ceilings,” says Mallory. “It’s filled with doors and windows overlooking the marina.”
With SD Events alleviating the planning pressure, the pair focused on details that mattered most to them, particularly design elements. Griffin, a software engineer, built their website while Mallory, a marketing professional, worked with Boston-based stationer Paper Moss on the printed materials. “It was really important to me for the wedding to have a brand and a cohesive vision,” says the bride. “I wanted everything to be beachy, summery and seaside but not nautical,” she adds.
From thoughtful welcome baskets to cocktail napkins printed with fun facts about the bride and groom, every nuance reflected Mallory and Griffin’s personalities. “I’m a very detail-oriented person,” says Mallory, “and I loved creating little unexpected twists for guests along the way.”
But the couple received their own unexpected wedding day surprise, according to the bride: “Our videographer, Generations Cinemastories, asked us to compile old pictures and letters. We thought they were for our video but Tasha secretly turned everything into a slide show that was such a fun, sweet surprise.”
