5 Reasons to Include Your Dog in the Big Day

By Lannan M. O’Brien

We get it: your pup is there for you all the other days, so you can’t imagine excluding him (or her) from the most important day of your life. Of course, there are some valid concerns about bringing your pooch (you’ll have to clean up after him and have a plan for walking him/ensuring he doesn’t get loose). But if you want your furry friend by your side, then we say go for it! Here are some top reasons to say “I do” to having your pup(s) tag along for the day.

1. They’ll calm your nerves.

Your pets are a great source of emotional support, and often, they can sense your anxiety. Who better to have by your side on the Biggest Day of Your Life? Even after saying your vows, it might be comforting to look down throughout the day to see that wagging tail.

2. They look great dressed up.

Is there anything cuter than a dog sporting a bow tie or florals? Or even a tux? No, we’re convinced that nothing beats a fur ball in formal attire!

3. They’re entertaining.

(Most) people of all ages love dogs. As much fun as your guests will have watching you and your spouse-to-be, they’ll also love checking to see what your pup does next (maybe he’ll even be invited out onto the dance floor?). More likely than not–and especially if you have kids at your wedding–there’ll be a line of guests waiting to play with him and take him for walks.

4. They add that extra “aww” factor.

Don’t get us wrong, your wedding will already be a romantic, emotional day for everyone. But add your furry friend to the mix and you’ve got a whole new element of irresistible sweetness, making it extra fun to look back on your photos with them.

5. They’re part of the family.

Your human family and friends are part of the day. Why not include your four-legged best friend too? After all, he’ll be there for you and your bride or groom every day as you navigate your new life together, for better or worse, through sickness and health– just as you’ve promised each other.
